Our Mobile Phones

December 14, 2024• byLiam

In today’s world, stepping away from our phones has become an essential practice in finding space for ourselves. What once was a simple retreat to the park with a dog or a gym session now often includes our phones, drawing us back into the whirlwind of the digital world. I’ve even witnessed individuals scrolling through social media between weight sets at the gym, a clear reflection of how deeply ingrained this constant connectivity has become in our daily lives.

Even if we manage to carve out physical space away from the demands and eyes of others, unplugging from the ever-present digital maelstrom remains a significant challenge. The barrage of information, opinions, and energy flooding from our phones creates a continuous stream of consciousness, one that can overwhelm even the most mindful among us. Social media, in particular, has become an instrument of self-manufacturing, encouraging us to create a curated persona—one that reflects society’s expectations. Whether it’s showcasing the latest fashion or the “best” experiences, it pressures us to conform, driven by the subtle but powerful fear of exclusion.

This digital age has ushered in a new kind of self-validation, but it comes at a cost. We don’t yet fully understand the long-term consequences of shaping ourselves for the digital gaze, but what’s clear is the undeniable pull it has on us. Our desire to be seen, heard, and validated is an ancient part of our human nature, something that has existed since the dawn of time. However, today, this need is amplified by technology in a way we are still adapting to.

To live our fullest potential and achieve a healthy balance, we must recognize the importance of disconnecting from this constant need for external validation. We must come to a place where we can say, “I need more than this—I need time and space to unplug, to reset, and to calm my nervous system.” Only then can we reconnect with our true selves, independent of external noise.

In the Tarot, the High Priestess embodies the wisdom of stillness and introspection. She invites us to find time to go within, to retreat from the outside world in order to hear our soul’s deeper voice. Similarly, the Hermit encourages solitude, urging us to withdraw temporarily in order to gain clarity and insight. These cards remind us that to grow spiritually and emotionally, we must learn to step away from distractions and rediscover the peace that resides within.

The digital world, while connecting us, also disconnects us from our true essence. Just as angels surround us with their protective energy, we, too, must create boundaries around our energy—drawing ourselves back from the noise to maintain our peace and power. It’s essential for our well-being to remember the importance of rest and renewal. The cycle of constant validation and digital noise can drain us in ways we might not even recognize yet.

The first step in reconnecting with our inner sanctuary is an intentional decision to withdraw. It’s not about escaping reality but reclaiming the power of stillness. In that stillness, we can hear the subtle whispers of the universe, guiding us toward our highest selves.

Regardless of where you are in the world, or your current circumstances, you can begin this journey of reconnection today. If you feel the pull to explore this deeper, I offer consultations to support your path of healing and growth. If financial barriers are present, reach out anyway. I am happy to recommend other resources like books and videos to guide your journey toward restoration.
